Hi,

I have a Vaio and am having issues with the dvd player.

It used to read dvd s no problem, but now whenever i put in a dvd i can hear it trying to load it and then it just stops. When trying to open the dvd the computer just shows it as empty.

However there is absolutely no problem in it reading cd such as audio and data files.

what s wrong? is it a problem with my software or with the dvd player?

thanks so much,

D

Unfortunately, your drive may be dying. I had a similar thing happen to a drive. First it stopped reading DVDs, then CD-RWs, then CD-Rs, lastly (though it took a while) CDs. I'm not sure exactly why it dies like this but it did happen.

Have you tried to clean your DVD Drive lens?
Dusting is another cause to not reading.

I'd say it is with the hardware personally. Just from my experience.
