AVG 8.5 problem

Recently I`ve downloaded the free updated AVG 8.5 & have had nothing but problems with it.It seems to scan too much & while it`s scanning it`s slowing my computer down to a crawl.Takes up too much of my memory I guess.I`m on XP.Are there any other free AVG downloads that would work better in my system?

Try to use Avast! it is very lite and good.

Scans too much? Have you got 'Daily Scan' turned ON by any chance? How much memory is the software using altogether? I'd say AVG is the most lightweight antivirus which is good at removing threats on my machine.
