Hi guys,

I need help!

My computer was running fine, but now the screen is blury. It's like is vibrating from the inside but it's not. Also, when I shut my computer off and turned it on to see if that would fix the problem, it started revving up like it was going 100mph! :)

I turned it off again, and then on, then I came to a black screen that said, insert a cd and hardrive error - or something like that. :)

Please help!

Thanks in advance,

Welcome to GeeksToGo,

My name is Cbarnard I hope I may be of some assistance to you:

Please keep in mind this is not our job and I'm not here 24\7. It can take a little bit of time for me to reply back to you,
if it has been more than 48hrs since a reply, please PM me and I will be with you as soon as possible.

With that said lets take a look and get this problem taken care of.

I'm going to need some information to better assist you:

If this is a retail computer for example (Dell, HP, Acer):

Brand and model of the computer?

Size of your Hard drive (HDD) and how much space is available?

Any upgrades that have been performed?

Any new software that has been installed just prior to the problem?

If this is a custom built computer:

The brand and model of the motherboard (MOBO)

The brand and model of the CPU

The size of your HDD and remaining space available what type of interface are they? (IDE = wide ribbon like wire
about 2 inches in width) (Sata = wire that is a little larger than a phone line)

The amount of RAM and speed of the RAM (are all the RAM modules the same?)

How many CD\DVD rom devices you have, what type of interface are they?

Brand and wattage of the power supply (PSU)

If you use video cards how many what brand and model are they?

If you use a sound card what brand and model?

What software you have installed just prior to your problems?

Please reply back with this information

For now I would advise you to remove the side panel from the computer

Check the interior for dust build up on fans and other components (clean if necessary)

(Please unplug the computer and ground yourself to the tower before you touch any electronic parts in the computer)

make sure of all connections to all components:

Is anything over heated (CPU, Video Card, North, South Bridge) if they burn your finger when you touch them they are over heated. If not they should be fine.

When you power up the computer are all the fans powered up? does the hard drive (HDD) spin up?

Check you ram make sure it is seated correctly in the DIMM.

Try these tests and get back to me about the other info please.

Thank you, and good luck

I guess Service Pack 3...

I downoaded some songs from Rhapsody about 1 hour before.

Also, this is the message I got when I restarted my pc: Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk and Press Enter

I restarted again and I was able to go on the internet.

hey...

200GB hard drive, How do I find how much space is available?

click Start> My computer> C:\ right click > properties

I guess Service Pack 3...

click Start> Control Panel> System

Also, this is the message I got when I restarted my pc: Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk and Press Enter

This can happen for a lot of reasons one being a loose power plug

I restarted again and I was able to go on the internet.

Was there a loose connection somewhere?

I downloaded some songs from Rhapsody about 1 hour before.

It is our recommendation here at G2G that you uninstall this program.(this is optional)

These types of programs are highly targeted to distribute viruses and other forms of malware.

You can't verify the validity of the file you intend to download. You may think you are downloading good files but they can be masked to carry bad payloads.

Plus with many computers becoming infected and becoming "drones:"

The creator can make the computer propagate the virus from infected computers via P2P programs like this one, and others.

On top of that there are times when they cause problems in the operating system and its stability.

I hope this helps, if your problems persist please reply back.

If everything is good please let me know

Good Luck

Hey,

It says I have 178gb capacity, 90.4 free space, 87.8 used used space.

Yeah I have service pack 3 no other upgrades.

My screen has lines moving up and down and it makes the words look blurly.
Can you give more reasons? :)

No loose conection.

Please help, I don't know what to do. :)
Sometimes I'm able to start it on go online and others I can't get past the "Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk and Press Enter" Black Screen. My screen is fuzzy no matter what. :)

Thanks,

Hi
I don't have alot of time,

Do you have another computer you can connect your monitor to, if you do please connect your monitor to it.
This will determine if your monitor is bad. If it works fine then we will have to look at whether you video is on the way out.

If it is you can purchase an after market video card cheap for that computer

I will be back on later,

Let me know how this works out...

Good luck

Yes I do.

The moniter is not the problem. It's fine until I power up the hard drive.

Why does it say, ""Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk and Press Enter" Black Screen."

I don't know if I will be able to go online anymore, because I wasn't able to get past the Disk boot fialure screen. I'm lucky to even be typing this.

Thanks,

We try as hard as we can to get everyone however sometimes posts fall though the cracks. If it has been more then three days you may post in the Waiting Room. Do not reply to your own topic(bump) or post a duplicate topic becouse it will only hinder us from being able to help you.

Hi

I'm sorry I just got back I had to work.

Is your HDD making any funny sounds or sound slow?

Locate the brand of the HDD

then navigate to the website for the HDD locate the Harddrive diagnosis tool from them. (on another computer)

Create the disk with the tool on it.

Follow the directions and boot the computer to the cd drive

Let this program test the HDD for any problems with functionality

if it passes then boot back in to windows

While you are in windows

Click Start > Run> type in Chkdsk /f (notice the space between k / )

This will check you HDD for errors related to windows and will fix any it encounters

Please try this and let me know how this works.

Good luck

Hi

No problem I always look forward to returning home to help those I have started with.

But like Tuxmaster said you need to give this a little more time. I know it is frustrating on your end. Believe me I have been there. We don't staff this site 24 hrs a day, so it can be some time before you may get a reply back.

Hdd is Hard drive (I'm sorry I didn't specify)

To check the brand of the Hdd

remove the side panel on your tower

if you can't see the sticker on the hdd without removing it then it will need to be removed.

unplug the computer from the wall

Ground yourself to the case(throughout these steps)

unplug the Hdd power and data cable then

If it the hedd is screwed in to the case get a screw driver and remove the screws, if it has a tool less install just remove the plastic retaining pieces.

The Hdd should slide out, be careful to not hit anything on the way out. The MOBO has a lot of fragile parts on it you could break off if your not careful.

Once it is out, there should be a sticker on the top, It will tell you the manufacture and the model number assigned by the manufacture

This should be what you are looking for...

Good luck

Ok. I located the hard drive :)

But they didn't have a website.

So I did the Checkdisk thingy and it ran 3 tests they all completed and then the pc booted up and the screen is still the same. and I keep getting the Disk boot failure notice.
