Hi cero and welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

1. Go to Geeks to Go
. Click on My Controls at the top right hand corner of the window. (make sure you have signed in first)
. In the left hand column, click "View Topics"
. If you click on the title of your post, you will be taken there

2. Also, while at the My Controls page, check the box to the right of your post and then scroll down.
.Where it says "unsubscribe" click the pull-down menu and select "immediate email notification"

3. Download Pocket Killbox and install it to your desktop
http://www.malwarere.../downloads.html
Don't use it yet.

4. Run HijackThis, click SCAN and place a checkmark beside the following entries:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://www.quicknavi...earch.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.quicknavigate.com/bar.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.quicknavi...earch.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.quicknavi...earch.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = http://www.quicknavi...earch.php?qq=%1
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://www.quicknavi...earch.php?qq=%1
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = http://www.quicknavigate.com/
F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=explorer.exe, msmsgs.exe
O1 - Hosts: 64.91.255.87 www.dcsresearch.com
O2 - BHO: VMHomepage Class - {FFFFFFFF-FFFF-FFFF-FFFF-FFFFFFFFFFFF} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hp4AA5.tmp

When all entries have been selected, click Fixed checked and EXIT the program.

5. Open Killbox

Check the following boxes:

Standard File Kill
End Explorer Shell While Killing file

Copy & paste the full path of each of the files below into the Killbox topmost box.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\msole32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\shnlog.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\intmon.exe
msmsgs.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hp4AA5.tmp

With the full path to the file name in the topmost textbox, Click the Red X ...and for the confirmation message that will appear, you will need to click Yes

Do this for each of the files listed. Some will not be deleted. Make sure you keep a list of them.

When you are through the list, use killbox to delete the files you were not able to delete as follows:

Open Killbox

Check the following boxes:

Delete on Reboot

With the full path to the file name in the topmost textbox. Click the Red X ...and for the confirmation message that will appear, you will need to click Yes

A second message will ask to Reboot now? you will need to click No (since you are not finished adding all related files in yet)

Click yes on the last file.

Note: Killbox will let you know if the file does not exist.

Reboot and Post a new hijackthis log

Regards,

Trevuren

Hi cero,

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

Now let's do some work on your log:

First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:

Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
*choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
*uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
*Close the window with ok
*All hidden files will now be visible

Close all browser windows and RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.

Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=explorer.exe, msmsgs.exe
O16 - DPF: {47CD99DF-8BCF-4B9B-94EF-02E51B2F79DA} - http://www.alwaysupd...ll/aun_0033.exe

Now with all the items selected, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window and Reboot Your System

Finally, RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everytjhing looks now.

Regards,

Trevuren

Hi cero,

You just seem to be downloading more and more junk

1. Now I want you to UNINSTALL the following programs through the ADD/REMOVE feature of your Control Panel:

P2P Networking
Gator
Weatherbug

2. Now, using Windows Explorer, I need you to DELETE the following folder(s) and all their content:

C:\Program Files\Gator
C:\Program Files\P2P Networking
C:\Program Files\Weatherbug

3. REBOOT your system.

4. Finally, run HijackThis and with all windows closed except for HJT, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

Trevuren

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CMESys] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\CMEII\CMESys.exe"
O4 - Global Startup: GStartup.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\GMT\GMT.exe

Now with all the items selected, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window and Reboot Your System in Safe Mode

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode

*Restart the computer.
*as soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*press Enter.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following folders, and DELETE them and all their content (if they are present):

C:\Program Files\Common Files\CMEII
C:\Program Files\Common Files\GMT

Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE

Finally, RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everytjhing looks now.

Regards,

Trevuren

Hi cero,

Apparently we are dealing with a worm.

1. Make sure that your antivirus definitions are up to date (Important)

2. We need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:

Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
*choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
*uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
*Close the window with ok
*All hidden files will now be visible

*uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
*Close the window with ok
*All hidden files will now be visible.

3. Disable System Restore Note: You will lose all your restore points but I believe the restore cache is corrupt. We will reset a clean restore point when we are sure that we are clean)

. Right click on "My Computer"
. Left click on "Properties"
. Left click on "System Restore Tab"
. Check box beside "Turn Off System Restore"
. Left click on "Apply"
. Confirmation box appears: answer "YES"

4. Run a FULL Antivirus scan

5. REBOOT into SAFE MODE

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode

*Restart the computer.
*as soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*press Enter.

6. Run HJT and with all windows closed, click SCAN and place a checkmark beside the following entries:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://g.msn.com/0SEESUS/SAOS01
F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=explorer.exe, msmsgs.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MsnMsgr] "C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\MsnMsgr.Exe" /background
O16 - DPF: {47CD99DF-8BCF-4B9B-94EF-02E51B2F79DA} - http://www.alwaysupd...ll/aun_0036.exe

Click on Fixed checked and exit the program.

7. Using Windows Explorer, find and DELETE the following file:

C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\MsnMsgr.Exe

8. REBOOT into Normal Mode

9. Finally, run HijackThis and with all windows closed except for HJT, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.
