It starts up in D: drive because that is the partition Windows is currently installed on. So, all I need to know is how to make the D:\Documents and Settings\ into a C:\Documents and Settings\ then we can continue

ampflex,

Just out of curiousity, were you upgrading from Windows ME? I had the same problem a while back with the continued restarting during installation because I did not format before installing. I had actually left my computer for a few hrs while it was installing and I came back to deceased computer with a blown fuse in the power supply :tazz: Anyhow, I suggest if you don't need any material on the drives, try and reformat when installing. As far as acess denied, I've got nothing on that. Best of luck.

Thanks, I will try that soon. As for Windows ME, That has nothing to do with this computer. I have it on my laptop and it is a complete nightmare, every time I try to install a New OS on it, it gives me a read error even though nothing is wrong with the disk or the laser. Now I gotta get the power supply fix because you have to hold it so it wont turn off

Ok sorry about the delay but I have to go to work some days
I notice you dave a file called LuResult.txt. lets see if we can move this
If we can move 1 file then we can do more (baby steps) I know the delay
may be annoying but it is better then breaking everything.

Ok at the prompt C:\Documents and settings\Ansar.ANSAR-3ovw0ybhl>
type copy(space)LuResult.txt(space)D:
press enter.
I hope you get a message that says 1 file copied. If yes, Do you know how to find the file on D using my computer or explorer?

Noooooo!! I cant do it!
Heres the message:

Access Denied
0 file(s) copied

Hope we can still continue on for a solution. By the way, dont stress about taking so long to reply, your not getting paid for it anyway :tazz:

Note: I have also tried to cd open a folder but same error message

3)ok now for something completely different
What if we try to backup 1 directory & restore it to drive D ?

2)also at the prompt where we just tried to copy the file from
type attrib hit enter. what does this show?

1)The old partition is it windows xp?
When you go to my computer do you have c: drive shared. It should have a picture of a hand holding the disc.
sorry about the order but I think of things and it is easier to number then to re type

ok, here we go again:

1. The old partition had windows XP installed on it. I do not see a picture of a hand holding a disk on the drive (link for screenshot below)
http://i5.photobucke...my_computer.jpg

2. I am not 100% sure if I did this right, please check below in screenshot.

3. How should I back it up?

1 at a time only sorry I did not mean to do all 3 just 1 at a time
Ok highlight drive C: right click >sharing and security>Sharing tab click on
share this folder on the network + allow network users to change my files
I know you do not have a network but this should put a hand under the drive
