problem with some applications menu bar

i noticed that for some of my applications, the menubar looks funny. when the program is loaded, they look normal: black text on grey background. but when i put my mouse over the selections, their background becomes white. i have to minimize and then maximize (or move another application window over it) before it turns grey again. are there any ideas as to what might be causing this?

it might be in the way your computer is set check out you own settings in the propertys area
