Well i reinstalled my windows recently and tried installing my video card, i run the setup provided from the video cards cd and i get this error: The NVIDIA setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit. So i download the driver for my video card from NVIDIA official site and i get the same error... I really don't know what to do next as I am not that good in computers,
My system: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2
My computer: Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 3.00Ghz 3.00Ghz, 1.99 GB of RAM
The video card i am trying to install is a Foxconn GeForce 8500 GT one.


Any help/suggestion will be greatly appreciated,

Make
Model
Operating System
Age of the computer
Memory Total
Hard Drive Size, How much free space



If this is custom then We will need the following:

The CPU brand and model
The Motherboard brand and model

Cd\Dvd rom interface IDE/
Hard Drive size and free space
Any cards in PCI slots

In Addition please supply:

Any software installed\updated and driver updates done just before problem started.
Any hardware installed\updated prior to problem starting.

All this will help in determining a course of action to best correct the problem you are experiencing.

If you can't find memory information then please follow the steps below.

1: Save it to your desktop.
2: Click on the icon it creates and let it run
3: I need the following information from it.
4: First click on the Mainboard tab at the top of the window and give me Manufacturer and Model number it shows
5: Cllick on the Memory tab and give me the Type and Size of memory it shows.
6: Click on the SPD tab and get me the Max Bandwidth line information.

Because i wanted to give you the most accurate info i downloaded the CPUz program u provided me.
Here is the info:
Mainboard:
1.Manufacturer: ASUSTEK Computer INC.
2.Model: P5LD2-VM | Rev 1.xx.
Memory:
1. Type: DDR2.
2. Size: 4096 MBytes.
SPD:
1. Max Bandwidth: PC2-4300 (266 MHz)
I have my computer for like 2 years now but I don't think it was new when i got it as a present.
The only driver i have installed for my video card after i reinstalled my windows was the one provided on the video card's cd i received.
If you need any more info feel free to ask me, you can't even imagine how gratefull I am to u for helping me out.

Lets take a look at the hard drive and see what you have.

Go to
1: Start
2: My Computer
3: Right Click on "C" drive
4: Click on Properties
5: In this field it will tell you total drive space and also free space

Please post results in next reply

Also I see that you have onboard video and that would mean you need to disable it in the bios. Did you do that?

Download and install EVEREST
Open it.
In left pane expand Computer folder.
Click once on Summary
In upper menu, go Report>Quick Report-Summary
Save it in text file, and paste it in your next post.
Don't include anything under the line Debug - PCI

Ok here is the info:
For the "C" drive i have:
Used space: 9.84 GB
Free space: 41.5 GB
I also have a "D" drive in which i saved some important data after reinstalling windows.
Used space: 80.1 GB
Free space: 17.5 GB

No, I didn't disable the onboard video card... because i dunno how.
I installed EVEREST, went to the Computer folder, expanded it and then i got stuck, I don;t know how to get to the Summary page. Here is a SS of what i see on computer folder being expanded:

Here is the everest setup examples.


Make sure that the new video card is installed in the system before starting the next steps
Reboot the system and at the first post screen(where it is counting up memory) start tapping the DEL button
This will enter you into the Bios\Cmos area.
Find the Advanced area and click enter
Look for Onboard Peripherals and look for the onboard video or VGA and highlight that.
Look at the bottom of the page to see how to modify it. You need to disable it.
Once that is done then click F10 to Save and Exit
You will prompted to enter Y to verify Save and Exit. Click Enter and the system will now reboot with the new settings.

I installed a program from the link u gave me and it is called Registry Mechanic, I don't know how to get to the point u shown me on ur SS. I propose if u would like to go on TeamViewer so u can do the steps for me because atm i am a burden.

Not sure where that program came from as the only link I gave was for Everest. On the page that the link opens up right under where it says Everest Free Edition
You will see the download links, please chose the |FL - USA| link to get the program. Then follow the example picture I included in post 7 to get the information and attach it with your next reply.

I understand the stress but we will get this issue resolved eventually.
Now lets move on and see what we can do. Have you been able to get into the bios and disable the onboard video yet? If so can you now get into windows and load the drivers for your new video card? Please let me know and I will assist with anything I can.

Ok, so i booted my pc and entered BIOS, went over to Advanced section and explored it a little. I found Internal Graphics Mode and i disabled it. I pressed f10 and saved my settings, when pc booted and arrived on desktop i get a message that Video Controller (VGA Compatible) after which i tried to install the driver from the video card's cd and i got the same error. So i went to DEvice manager and disabled the Video Controller (VGA Compatible) yellow question mark, I rebooted and tried to install the driver agaian... and i get same error.

Instead of disabling it try to update the driver and when it asks for location have it point to your cdrom disk for the driver.
