Another problem with my computer.

Whenever i open a folder that contains an .AVI file it causes the DEP message to appear and windows to close. The AVI files will still
play in windows media if i click on them. This has been an ongoing problem which ive just put up with. Any advice then i'd be grateful.

thanks

Make : MESH
Model : AMD ATHLON 64 PROCESSOR 3200 2.2GHZ
Operating System : WINDOWS XP
Age of the computer : about 5 years
Memory Total : 512mb

I'm running Windows XP (Service pack 3) with a Radeon 9800 graphics card

Let's pretend, I didn't see the above, since it's illegal.
Let's focus on your family movies.

Does the DEP pop-up, when you open the folder, or when you try to play some movie?

when i open up the folder. If i double click on the file (when the DEP appears) it will still play though.

If i double click on the file

That means, it pops up, when the actual video program is about to open.

You can exclude that program (whatever you use to play video files) from DEP protection.

Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl, and then click OK.
On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.
Click Data Execution Prevention tab.
Select second option: Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select

Click on Add button, and navigate to the program, you want to exclude from DEP protection.

Thanks for your help with this. This seems to have cleared the problem.
