I have very same version, however the file may be corrupted. We'll get there.it's version: 6.6.8063.0
In Vista you should receive the following message: "Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations", if no errors were found.I did the sfc /scannow and it didn't come up with anything. didn't ask for cd nor left me any "messages"

In Windows Explorer, click on Tools>Folder options>View tab, and UN-check "Hide extensions for known file types".under: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder.
the names i have is cbs.bld, cbs, and cbs.persist
Did you go through regsvr32 commands?

First, try this...
Click Start
In "Start search" type in:
cmd
Hold CTRL, and SHIFT, hit Enter.
At command prompt, type in:
regsvr32 /u mfc42.dll (<----watch for "spaces")
Hit Enter.
Type in:
regsvr32 mfc42.dll
Hit Enter.
Restart computer.
See, if the problem persist.
If so, reinstall offending program.
