I am able to send and recieve email through outlook but all of my other internet activites do not work. When I click on the IE icon, the window tries to open and connect to my home page, google. Then the window closes and goes away. I've tried to launch through the start menu with "no add-ons", nothing happens. I went to the control page and my internet options icon is gone. I can't even find the internet file(s) in the registry or general policies. I have tried every way I know how to get to the internet and it just does not work. Not even from the system utilities window.

I have searched for an answer for 3 days and I'm ready to pull my hair out. I'm having to use my son's computer just to try and find help.

Try this to see if it's IE or something wrong with your system itself

Download Firefox from my signature below and install it. If it works then we know it's a IE problem.

Thanks! Firefox has me connected again. Now, I need to figure out how to get my internet options icon back on the control page. Also, do you know if I can have FF and IE? I'm a teacher and my school's intranet won't work with FF but it does with IE.

I would also suggest you take a trip to the malware forum and make sure your system is clean. To do that:

Please go to the "Malware Forum" link in my signature below and follow the instructions at the top
Especially the "You Must Read This Before Posting A HijackThis Log".

That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself.
If at the end of the process you are still having difficulty start a topic and post the requested logs in THAT Forum.
Once the malware technicians have cleared out any infection and given you a clean bill of health, and if the problem continues then feel free to post back here and we can investigate the problem even more.

Add a link to this topic so that malware tech can see what steps have been taken here

Went to the malware forum, completed the first two steps in cleaning up the computer but I cannot finish the process because I can't update windows. IE still isn't working and windows updates won't work with Firefox.

If you are unable to run any of the tools then start a new topic in the malware forum and put this in the subject line...I am unable to run any malware tools
