We recently upgraded our 1998 IBM computer at work to a new HP Slimline. We were running windows 98 on the IBM with Quickbooks 2000. Well when we purchased the new computer I upgraded our Quickbooks to the 2009 version. I was told that I could move the data from the old computer to the new computer via external hard drive. I did that and tried to copy the old computer files to the new computer files. Looked like it worked. I put the old hard drive back into the old computer and when restarted the computer it says that I have some DLL files missing. The IBM computer is so old you cant do anything to it. And it doesn't go online so I can't download anything to help me fix my registry. I'm so lost as to what to do I even tried to reinstall win98 but when I enter in the product key it says the key is invalid. I cant seem to find anything out there that supports windows98. I even called microsoft hotline and they dont support windows98. They said I have to get a local tech support to fix it.

Try reinstalling windows 98 from scratch, again. Go into the startup disk, delete all partitions, restart, go into fdisk and create one large DOS partition, restart, format it, restart, go back into fdisk and delete that (the format will clean the hard disk of whatever it might have had saved, making it completely empty.). shutdown for 2-3 minutes (this will clear the memory) then turn on and create the amount of drives you need. This should allow Windows 98 to install nicely and cleanly. This is the method I used to recover form viruses in windows 98. Hope this helps.
