Windows XP home
I have a few folders on my desktop that contain multiple other files.
Whenever I click on the main folder to open it, nothing happens. As a result, I am unable to access any of those files.
This just happened several days ago.

Whenever I click

You mean double-click right?
Try right clicking on the folder and selecting "Open" or "Explore"

Tried right-clicking on "Open" and/or "Explore", and nothing happens. My PC will then freeze up.

Can you go to Start -> My Computer?
The folders in your desktop will be located on C:\Documents and Settings\"User name"\Desktop

I play around all day with my problems, and, lo and behold, I don't know why, but most of the problems are solved.
Thanks for your concern and feedback.

I wish I knew. I have absolutely no idea how the problems cleared up.
