If everyone suspects an infection, then please post in the Malware Forum, and describe your problem, along with providing a link to this topic.

Since the file, C:\WINDOWS\SMINST\Start.exe is not found I don't think you have a recovery program or a recovery partition on your computer.

i'd be remiss if i did not thank you. i'd allready begun to think the recovery process was unreachable. maybe when all the viruses that he got probably from all the music and videos are removed there will be a wayto get it back together, but whether there is or is not; i thank you all.

Yeah, he has been downloading music and video for the whole time he has had that machine. i bought my desttop the very same day and i have very little problems because i download very little. he has got it beyond anything i know how to fix.
