My internet options tab is missing from the control panel and my IE won't work. I know I have an internet connection because I can get email and use Firefox. However, when I try to open EI, the window opens and goes to the Google homepage but then immediatly closes with out any error message. Just gone. When I try to open IE without add-ons the IE window stays open but is totally blank.

I followed the first two steps in the malware guide and there were a few nasties cleaned out. Unfortunately, I can not complete step three, windows updates, until I can get my IE to work.

Any suggestions?

Hey hookemhorns,

It sounds like your issue is due to malware; if you cannot connect to windows updates then please skip this step and continue with the guide. Please follow Step Five: Rootkit Detection and Step Six: Post an OTListIt2 Log; ensure you post your logs in the Malware Removal and Spyware Removal forum. When you start your new topic in that forum, mention that you could not acquire the Windows updates and also all of the information that you have posted in this topic; this information may help them identify the nature of the malware on your machine.

If you are still having problems after being given a clean bill of health from the malware expert, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).

Thanks,
- Dan
