I started in tha malware forum and was sent here as the think it isnt malware but related to windows as there isnt much in the logs,

http://www.geekstogo...on-t238348.html

that is the topic i started in.

you cant open any of the applications normally however if you right click on them and click on 'run as' then take of the tick box which says 'protect my computer from unautherized program activity' and then click ok the program will open up fine.

since i have deleted the antivirus's of the computer, the message has since changed, now an 'open with' window comes up and asks you to select the program to open the .exe file with

Please Help

Cheers

Go Start>Run ("Start Search" in Vista), type in:
sfc /scannow
Click OK (hold CTRL, and SHIFT, hit Enter in Vista).
Have Windows CD/DVD handy.
If System File Checker (sfc) will find any errors, it may ask you for the CD/DVD.
If sfc won't find any errors in Windows XP, it'll simply quit, without any message.

created the new account, 'test', there are no errors there at all, everything opens fine

can also run the sfc /scannow, and it says that files that are required for windows need to be copied to the dll cache, ill try and find my copy of xp.....not much luck for that as this is not ym laptop, and i dont think i have any copies of xp....

we know now its your user account that's hosed...not windows...the quick and clean way to fix this is to create a new user account...copy your data from the old account to it and delete the old account/s...
