Quelle catastrophe! It would appear that you have a system probelm somewhere along the line. Now I don't know what you have to repair the system.

If you have a Windows XP CD, then you can boot from that and choose to repair the system.

If you have one of those PC's that are sold "pre-installed user" and you get some floppies (rescue disks) to effect a repair, then that is what we'll have to do.

Some PC's are sold with a partition on the hard drive housing a non-destructive recovery (factory reset) option.

Please advise.

I thought it might be terminal, so I have done a complete reinstall. Whose a clever boy then!

It seems to be working better than ever now.
