Hi guys

My O.S. is Windows XP sp3 my problem is this.

I have installed Nero7 and I'm trying to erase my rewritable discs Memorex 4X CD-RW 650MB/74min. at no avail :) this is what I been doing:

put the rewritable disc on tray .

so.. I open Nero 7 select Extras / select Erase Cd / the window appear of Erase Rewritable Disc / I select Full-erase rewritable disc but....... the erase option it's greyout !!

----------------------

Now I try using InCd of Nero 7 to as well I did this:

Start / My Computer/ right click on the "D:" drive where my disc is in / Properties / InCD tab and here is what i see this Icon of a dvd drive with a RED interrogation symbol on it .
I have a HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4167B

-----------------------

Now I opened Erase InCD from Nero7

I selected Erase Disc / select Full and doesn't show progress and under the line that is greyout says No rewritable disc in drive .

-----------------------------

In fact I have the disc in the drive ! but for some reason is not recognizing it ! why ??
I already upgrade my firmware of the LG GSA-4167B to L13 so ... ?

My Drive can.... read, burn, reproduce and write " cd's, dvd's and cd-rws "

But cannot erase the cd-rw discs with Nero7 or Power ISO, I already tried Superblank as well and can't erase the rewritable discs.

I took my disc over another computer with same version of Nero7 and her computer was able to erase it with no trouble a full erase!!
we have the same operating system XP.

So what's wrong with my system ?

Thanks in advance for any help and assistance, pls. forgive my English not my first language and my ignorance about this.

I'm confused :)

Nero is good burning software, but I don't know what could be wrong with it. I suggest you try uninstalling and reinstalling Nero to see if that will correct the problem.
Try this: http://www.ntfs.com/dvd_eraser.htm

I don't know at this point. When did you notice this problem started happening? After the firmware upgrade?

No it was happening before the firmware upgrade , that's why I decide to check the firmware to see if they have a more updated firmware than DL13 .

I had L13 when this was happening so the "upgrade" was to flash again the DVD with the same firmware.

So I'm not sure if I can downgrade to a older firmware and see if it's going to let me erase CD-RW rewritables and if the Drive it's going to identify that they are rewritables cd's when I try to erase them.

I'm going to check your link.

-------------------------------------------

update:

That's exactly the firmware in that download page, that I used to have before and it was the one I reinstall "upgrade" and is the one that I have right now with this problem in my DVD.

thnsk you very much to have time to help me edge2022 .

We have to make sure that this problem is isolated to the Windows OS, and your drive.
Let's try wiping the disc with another OS, Ubuntu (a distro of Linux)
Click on "Backup Files Without Windows" in my sig, and follow the instructions to burn an Ubuntu Live CD; and booting from it.
Instructions for wiping the CD can be found here: http://www.ubuntugee...d-rwdvd-rw.html

Also, can you try to write to and erase some discs not made by Memorex. This will tell us if the drive doesn't work with that specific disc.

HI edge

Yes I tried different brands and No it don't recognize the CD-RW rewritable discs at all .
One other thing I notice ... is that when I right click on the D: drive where I place my disc I don't have anymore that option of :

put the cursor on the CD drive icon, and then the option to erase the CD would appear, but now there is no such option anywhere. :)

Does that sounds familiar to any software error you fix before and can it lead to a fix ?

And by the way edge I'm going to do that back up in Ubuntu tomorrow morning , because right now I'm pretty tired my eyes are closing and I don't wan to make a mistake , it looks something that I need to have all my sense awake :)

So thnsk you very much for helping me :)

And I will cyu tomorrow morning to start with the new process of Ubuntu

nite.

We might want to run a sfc check to make sure that all OS files are ok.
If you have your Windows CD, then go to Start -> Run -> sfc /scannow

If you don't then do the registry tweak described here: http://www.updatexp....cannow-sfc.html
Then reboot, and run sfc.

Try to see if Linux will erase your disc.
