Hi, I am clueless with a 2 year old Compaq with Vista installed that is frequently going into a very deep sleep. The screen goes black as it should but frequently the normal step of moving the mouse to wake it is fruitless as the mouse is lights out as well. The only way to correct it is to crash the computer by pulling its plug and rebooting. Any ideas or fixes?
Kind Regards, Max

Do you have a Sleep button on your keyboard?
Have you tried tapping the power button once (quickly)?
Is there any noise/sound coming from the computer when it's in this state?
Have you reset your BIOS settings to default?

Hi,

There is a sleep button on the keyboard, next time it does it I will try hitting that.

I have tried the quick tap on the power button, this one I know doesn't work.

I haven't played with any BIOS or Boot settings at all so hopefully it hasn't changed since it was new.

Thanks for the ideas

Kind Regards, Max

When the mouse light goes out, is there any other noise (fans, drives, etc) coming from the system?
When you force the reboot, does Windows tell you it wasn't shut down properly the next time you reboot?
