my cd burner will not burn cds anymore what's wrong with it

Maybe it's tired.

Alternatively, more likely the writing laser's worn out. Not worth fixing, cheaper and quicker to buy a new CD unit.

Happened to me on my old computer. Just as Neil said the writing laser was worn out. CD burners are relatively cheap these days so I suggest that you just go out and buy a new one. There are plenty on the market and you shouldn't have a hard time finding a new one.
