nvidia 6600 GT problem

Hi
I have just upgraded from an Fx5200 to a 6600GT graphics card.I uninstalled the old drivers and card then fitted the new card and installed the newest drivers.

i was getting a black screen after a few minutes of starting a game(its ok when doing everyday tasks like email,word etc).I thought it may be the power supply(its 400w)so I disconnected my cd and dvd roms and put the hard drive on one leg and the graphics card on the other.I thought this had cured it but the problem came back after about half an hour.I have tried adjusting the options in the BIOS one at a time but nothing seems to cure it.

One strange thing that has happened is that the hard drive led is now pemanently on.

Any help would be much appreciated
