Okay, I did the clean install and then I used MozBackUp to put my bookmarks and all back in and it appears that Firefox is now working properly.
Thanks a lot for your help! I just have to remember to follow the directions to the letter. It helps!

Okay, apparently I'm a big fat liar. It is back to the way it was .... only now a couple of other sites don't even retain the "knowledge" of my username and passwords.

Did you install some add-ons already?
If you did, to save you some typing...
Download FoxScan from HERE, or HERE
Double click on FoxScan.exe to start the scan.
DOS-like window will pop-up.
Press 2 for English. Press Enter.
Be patient. It'll take few minutes.
When the tool is done, it'll display:
Search completed.
Press any key to coninue...
Press any key.
Notepad window titled Rapport-FS.txt will open.
Save the file to known location, and attach it to your next reply.

You didn't ask but seriously ... my bad ... didn't think. I'm still getting the hang of vista.
Rapport_FS.txt 7.3KB 191 downloads
P.S. I've also never attached files to any of my problems here. I hope I did it right.

You did
OK, you have some add-ons there, so let's try this...
Close Firefox. Go Start>All Programs>Mozilla Firefox, click on Mozilla Firefox (safe mode).
Work in that mode for a while, signing in, signing out, and see, if you're having same problem.
If I was about to shoot in the dark, I'd say AVG Safe Search, but this is a wild guess.
