Hello bigman8 &Welcome to GTG !

As a starting point... Lets check your drivers are functioning correctly

( The driver's are required to enable communication to and from your device's )

Without the appropriate drivers the devices will not operate correctly...

Go to

Start > my computer , Right click " My computer " select " Properties "

Click the Hardware Tab and select " Device Manager "

Scroll Down and check for any Yellow Exclaimation marks or red icons

Report back in next reply any yellow or red icons listed in Device Manager

Please note : i am on XP so instructions/names may vary slightly

Best of luck !
&
Happy Computing
