I need help trying to sucessfully delete the infamous canada.exe program, which every time I log on, a green icon "Click Me" appears and then prompts me for a $2.99 call. I also need help with other pop ups even though my internet browser isn't even running. I have tried everything I could, including spyware removal, but it doesn't delete the whole thing, only traces, so it still installs itself anyway. ;) If anyone can help me on this problem, contact me ASAP and it would be greatly appreciated. Below is the last updated HiJackThis log file. Thank you. ;)

Welcome What? to Geeks to Go!

You are running HijackThis from its zipped archive; please create a new folder for it and unzip the program into it. It is very important you do this before anything else!

***

Please print out and/or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

***

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

***

Please download Nailfix from here:
http://users.pandora...chy/nailfix.zip
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

***

Download LQfix.
Unzip it to your desktop but do NOT run it yet.

***

Please download the Killbox by Option^Explicit. *In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download.
Save it to your desktop, but do NOT run it yet.

***

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.co.../safemode.shtml

***

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.bat. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

***

Run LQfix.

***

Run Ewido, and run a full scan. Post the log from the scan here for me.

***

Then please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Explore] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\Explore.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [checkrun] C:\windows\system32\elitenpr32.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HELPER] C:\WINDOWS\System32\canada.exe -N

O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} -
C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm (file missing)

O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm (file missing)

O16 - DPF: {91433D86-9F27-402C-B5E3-DEBDD122C339} -
http://www.netvenda....s1.cab?fgiocv=1

O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe (file missing)

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

***

Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.
Select "Delete on Reboot".
Paste these files one at the time into the full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\Explore.exe
The program will ask you if you want to reboot;click NO.
Do the same for these files.
C:\windows\system32\elitenpr32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\canada.exe
After the last one, click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

***

Reply to this topic using 'add reply' and post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

If you have resolved this issue please let me know.

Now, there is only 1 small question that I need for you to answer:

Are there any other programs I would need to install in order to make sure that this never happens again?

Finally, I just want to say that I am so grateful for your help. THANK YOU! ;)

You did a great job. :tazz: The log is clean.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
  • Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:

Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources

  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

    Understanding and Using Firewalls

  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

  • Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware, Malware, and Hijackers

  • Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer

  • Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Glad I was able to help.
