Hi All

I have a question about firewalls, Zone Alarm free. I have Zone Alarm install on an XP computer. 2.8Ghz and 512mb of ram. The problem is that the computer boots real slow. If I remove Zone Alarm is boots a lot faster. Has anybody run into this before? It is several minutes differences.

Thanks, Doug

Yes ZA is a resource hog. I would also suggest with only 512 megs of memory you may want to upgrade that to at least a gig.

Go HERE and run the Crucial online scanner.
This will give you the exact memory configuration for your system. You do not have to buy the memory from there, but write down the information and if you need assistance in purchasing the upgrade memory GTG can assist with suggestions also.

Zonealarm, as stated by rshaffer, is a resource hog, and will slow down your entire system if you don't have enough resources to keep it going. Comodo is a good alternative (for AV and Firewall).
Online Armor (Firewall) is also good. http://www.tallemu.c...n-software.html

Avast is a good AV, which you can use with the Online Armor Firewall.

Thanks for the info. I am going to add ram to it and will give Comodo a try.

Nice choice. Comodo is less aggressive than ZoneAlarm. :)

Finally installed more ram, 1GB. Did not make any difference when booting up. As soon as I removed Zone Alarm, boots in less than a minute. When I down loaded Comodo it has an antivirus program with it. I have AVG and am happy with it. Can Comodo be set up to just use there firewall?

Thanks, Doug

Yes, during installation, you'll have a choice to install firewall only.

Good to see that your system is doing better. :)
AVG for AV and Comodo for firewall should work well.
