I have a 4-year-old Dell Dimension 8400. It has a 16X DVD+/-RW drive/burner.

It will burn CD-Rs, but will no longer burn DVD-Rs. I am using a Roxio burning program and when I try to burn to a DVD the disk gets rejected. The message is that the disk is dirty, or that I should try one made by another manufacturer.

The sales person in the local Best Buy told me to try burning DVD+R rather than -R.

Any suggestions ?

Your dvd burner maybe on the way out. This happens as the laser or the reader starts to die. It usually progresses: writable dvds-->dvds-->writable cds-->cds
