I have followed all previous directions and I am ready to present my logfile. Completed all required scans, downloads as directed.I had AURORA popping up in toolbar between Start and Clock for about 0.3 seconds.Mcafee has been catching trojan called Nail.exe 4-5 times per day.I don't know if I can do this. I am not real good on the cLogfile of HijackThis v1.99.1

Hi there! My name is Kat, and I will be helping you to get your computer fixed back up and on the go! :tazz:

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Please run Notepad and copy the following text into a new file:

@ECHO OFF
cd %windir%
Nail.exe /FULLREMOVE
sc config SvcProc start= disabled
sc stop SvcProc
sc delete SvcProc
attrib -s -r -h nail.exe
attrib -s -r -h svcproc.exe
del nail.exe
del svcproc.exe
cd %windir%\system32
attrib -s -r -h DrPMon.dll
del DrPMon.dll
exit

Save the file to the desktop as remove.bat and make sure the "Save as type" field says "All files".

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.co.../safemode.shtml

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on remove.bat. A window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Post the log from the scan here for me.

Then please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

Hello again! First, I need you to move HijackThis OUT of the temp folder! Open your My Documents folder, and click "New" at the very top then choose "Folder". Go to the temp folder where HJT is located, and right click it once and choose "cut". Then go back and double click to open that new folder and right click in there and choose "paste".

Now

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(Windows XP)
1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

Hello again. Please follow all instructions exactly, as we are removing Malware from your system. The following entries are known Malware infections.

You need to move HijackThis OUT of the Temporary Directory, and reset your System Restore as I have outlined in my last post. You have a virus residing in the System Restore.

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapp.../search/ie.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.yahoo.com/
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapp.../search/ie.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k
O9 - Extra button: EmpirePoker - {77E68763-4284-41d6-B7E7-B6E1F053A9E7} - C:\Program Files\EmpirePoker\EmpirePoker.exe (file missing)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: EmpirePoker - {77E68763-4284-41d6-B7E7-B6E1F053A9E7} - C:\Program Files\EmpirePoker\EmpirePoker.exe (file missing)
O16 - DPF: {3A7FE611-1994-4EF1-A09F-99456752289D} - http://install.wildt...iveLauncher.cab

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked

Reboot, a post a fresh HJT log here in a reply. I also need to see the log from the Ewido scan you did, so we can clean out any viruses that Ewido could not kill off.

The red.clientapps files aren't deleting because they are "hooked in" with your AOL service. They aren't actual "Malware" just directs your web searches through Yahoo.

Otherwise, your log looks fine now. How are things running?

Things seem to be running OK. I have had some problems with Task Manager starting to many prog. on start up ( 45 ). Should be 24-32 if I remember right. I don't know which ones I can eliminate. I know the 7 crucial ones but that is all another topic

you can use Spybot to decide what you do and don't want to start up! Open Spybot and at the top, click Mode, then Advanced. Go to Tools (on left menu) then System Startup. UNcheck the things you do not want to automatically start up. You are right, some of the things you will see are very necessary.

I'll leave this thread open another day or so. if you have any questions about the things in your startup list, feel free to ask here and I'll let you know! :tazz:

nope! Just unchecking them removes them from automatically starting up!

How is everything running?
