PluginVideo.exe causing Search Engine redirects

Afternoon to all @ GTG! I am a newbie to this site so bare with me. Let me try to be as detailed with my situation. First off, I think I know where the problem originated. A few days back(I'd say Monday 5/26/09), I did a search trying to find a torrent(video)file to download. Once the download was complete, it opened up my Windows Media Player along with a prompt asking me to download missing codecs. I usually delete items like this because I know it is something fishy but rushing myself I clicked on the prompt which led me to download a bogus exe.(it was something like PluginVideo.exe) Once I downloaded this, AVG detected a virus(didn't get to write the name of it) and I went ahead and did suggested which removed it. But ever since then, I've had the following problems:

- Search engines redirecting me to false sites like
"http://search14.info...ffiliate=23497"
- System Restore which had restore points were deleted and does not work
- Other utilities such as Disk Defrag, Cleanup do not respond when trying to use
- Certain won't run unless I rename their exe. file


Their might be more problems that I do not see with the naked eye but this is what I've witnessed and experienced so far. Hopefully you guys can help me find a solution to this. Thank you in advance!
