Disable Windows Defender service.
I've never heard of Defender catching any malware anyway...

Click Start.
In "Start search" type in:
services.msc
Hit Enter.

Scroll down to Windows Defender service.
Right click on it, click Properties, and under Startup type select Disable from drop-down menu.
Restart computer.

One additional step that Broni left off:

# Go to Start > Run and type msconfig
# Go to Startup tab and uncheck Windows Defender displayed at Startup Item.

You can't actually "uninstall" the software. You can disable the service and prevent it from running at startup. It is an integral component of Vista.
