I was asked to start my own thread from a previous conversation that started in the Winxp forum, in which another user was having a very similar problem to mine.

I cannot download anything through port 80, though ftp (port 20) is working fine. This may have been coincident with my attempts to reconfigure my network settings, which I was trying to do because I keep getting a "network cable disconnected" pop-up from my task bar, though I have only one ethernet port and one ethernet connection--this all started when I moved and my computer went from being connected via router to being connected via cable modem. I have a motorola surfboard modem, standard cable, generic ethernet card.
My internet connection (comcast broadband) has been absolutely fine, no problems until very recently when this whole download problem started. As tested out through the other fourm, my ftp downloads will work fine.

I have tried switching browsers, and this has not helped. Through mozilla I get a "object has been blocked" message...through IE I get a do not have authorization to access this page (error 403)...forbidden zone or some such nonsense...I can't do email attachments either.
I have ZoneAlarm Pro running but I have never had a problem like this with it before.
The other user on the other forum seems to have had this same problem when switching over to satellite service, and reconfiguring his network. I have always been on broadband with this computer, though the way in which I got there has changed.

I'll reiterate because I know this is kinda confusing: when I first moved there was no problem (except for the network cable disconnected pop-up, which seems to come quite randomly). THen I tried to fix that by reconfiguring my network. Then I realized I couldn't download anything. It had been a while since I had tried to download...not sure if these two things are even actually related.
Anyways! Here's the log:

Hello Syndicate,
Since the problem (might of) started when you reconfigured your router, it leads me to belive that your router's inbuilt-firewall closed the port '80'. Have you tried connecting to your routers internet-based setup page, and forwarding the port 80 to your computer? Also, for testing purposes, please temporarily disable ZA Pro.

You need to post that HiJackThis log here.

The 'Network Cable Disconnected' message can be caused by alot of things, and below I will supply the main fixes:
1) Learn about Media Sense and how to Disable Media Sense.
2) Your NIC card could be malfunctioning -- have you checked it?
3) Download and run the WinsockXP Fix. Restart your computer.
4) If the WinsockXP Fix did not solve the problem, run the following commands in Command Prompt:
netsh winsock reset -- Restart your computer; if this did not solve the problem, reset your TCP/IP settings:
netsh int ip reset reset.txt -- Restart your computer.

Hmm....I am sorry about posting HijackThis log here, my inexperience with this forum is blatantly obvious!
As for the router issue, I no longer have a router, I am connected via motorola cable modem to broadband (sorry for lack of clarity).
I will try the other fixes that you have posted and post results within the next couple of days. Thanks very much.
