I have had my laptop now for about 5 years now and I've been using the same mouse for at least the past year. Never had any issues until the beginning of this month when my laptop stopped recognizing the mouse and the hard drive. It came up with an error message the first time saying "Unrecognized device detected" or something close to that. After the first time I connected it the message stopped showing up. I've tried uninstalling the USB Universal Host Controllers and the USB root hubs and restarted my computer and got no where. I tried everything that is listed on the HP support website and still nothing. I was told to go into my BIOS Setup and I tried to, but I don't have the password which I didn't set in the first place. I bought this computer straight out of the store, and I have been the sole owner, although my room-mate did have access to it. I'm not looking for a way to clear the password to the BIOS system, I just need to know if there are other possible ways to fix the problem with my USB ports before I pay $300 for HP to clear the password for me. Thanks in advance.
