Normal safe mode is fine. All the files you saw were .dll files. That is normal. When it shows you that long list, just wait a bit. Shouldn't take more than 3 minutes.

Now when you are starting the computer the regular way, you log in and then it gives you the error, right? When you exit out of it by pressing either option, it shows your desktop blank, right? That is when you want to use ctrl + alt + del, and start explorer.exe as a new task. Also in the task manager, go to the processes tab and tell me what's running in there.

Try safemode with command prompt, and when you get to the prompt try:
%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
to do system restore.

Your error is often the result of some infection.

I suggest that you start a new topic in the Malware Removal and Spyware Removal area.

Before you start a new topic click on this link --> Malware and Spyware Cleaning Guide, Please read before starting a new topic. This will give you a few preparations to make, as well as instruction for posting your OTListIt2 log.

If you are still having problems after being given a clean bill of health from the malware expert, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).

Since you mention that, get your files back and then proceed to the Malware Forum. Click on "Backup Files Without Windows" in my sig, and get your files back. After so, please follow the Malware and Spyware Cleaning Guide, and then post the required logs in the Malware Forum.
