I got a system in that the PS/2 mouse will not work...same for a usb mouse...tried known working mice in both flavors and no joy...
and yes I tried everything possible in the bios to get them working...
my question is...does xp need drivers for a Serial Mouse to work...I can get a serial mouse for $25 bucks instead of replacing the mobo for over $100

Never needed one.

What exactly do you mean by not working?
Is the cursor present, but it doesn't move, or there is no cursor at all?

no cursor at all using the usb mouse or the PS/2 style....loads xp but with no mouse to select which account to log in to...your just stuck...I already ordered a MS serial mouse for $15 ...hated to do it because I did a major clean out of old junk and must have thrown away a half dozen of them about 6 months ago
