My name is Nick. I am trying to sell my old laptop and I want to restore it to factory settings. I can't find the disks that came with the computer to do that. Is there somewhere I can download a program to do it or am I pretty much screwed?

My old laptop is a Compaq Presario M2000

Thanks for your help!

Nick

Howdy:

You can't without the disks.

Your only option would be to get some sort of program like Eraser that will wipe your drive. From there, anyone that buys it would also have to go out and purchase a Microsoft install cd.

I thought that Compaq computers had a recovery partition.

Try that.

Or if you have not made recovery CDs yet, you can do that now: http://h10025.www1.h...ocname=bph08097

How old is your system?

The system came with the Recovery cd as most older systems did. In this case there may NOT be a recovery partition.

Newer systems have the Recovery Partition that contain the os, drivers and some files.
