I got this idea from a thread at BC, and it can get pretty hilarious! :)

Basically, you come up with a sentence in English. Feed it to Google Translate in a couple of different languages before converting it back to English and see what you get back!

Original: Alcohol and calculus don't mix: Never drink and derive.
Result: Do not mix alcohol and stone: never drink can.

:)

Google Translate: http://translate.google.com/translate

---

I'll start :)

An astute scribe shall always eschew superfluous grandiloquence.

English -- > Danish --> Polish --> Russian --> English yields...

Scribe is always wise to avoid unnecessary bombast.

Other than bombast, sounds fine to me. Darn! :)

The hat, I've been wearing for the last couple of weeks, is the same type of hat that Indiana Jones wore.

English > Dutch > German > Greek > Italian > English

The hat must be worn for the last few weeks, the same kind of hat wearing Indiana Jones.

Epitome of the phrase "Lost in the translation" :)

Both the man of science and the man of action live always at the edge of mystery, surrounded by it.
(J. Robert Oppenheimer one of my favorite people)

English > Spanish > Slovenian > German > Hindi > English

Thus, the activity of men of science and a man on the edge of mystery, surrounded by the living.

It is essential that web translators preserve correctness of grammar.

English > Spanish > Norwegian > Greek > English

It is important that translators from grammatical correctness web.

Technically, it's still grammatically correct if you treat "web" as a verb! :)

Let's try another one...

Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you don't know how to disable them then just continue on.

English > Czech > Swedish > Arabic > Serbian > English

Disable anti-virus software and applications protušpijunskih usually right-click on the icon in the taskbar. May represent the interference in our tools. If you do not know how to disable them, and then continue.

Still not that exciting. Let's try one more that's a bit more unusual...

Please screw the screw into the hole labeled B, drill the large screw into hole D using a drill, and hammer the hammer shaped extension on the left until it is flat.

English > Catalan (whatever that is) > German > Galician > Russian > English

Please screw holes in the "B", large hole in the screw holes with D, hammer and hammer-shaped extension on the left side until it is flat.

That's a bit better :)

Quoted from the book The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom:

No time is a waste. The only time we waste is the time we spend thinking we are alone.

:) Let's see how google will mishmash the thing...

English > German > Italian > Indonesian > English

No time wasted. The only time we waste the time you spend thinking we are alone.

Closer...

++++ what about this one:

Necessity is always the mother of invention.

English > French > Filipino > Norwegian > Spanish > English

The need is always the mother of invention.

We should admit it... :) ...google translator is improving

Taking Michael Jackson's line from ryan_07's signature:

If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and then make a change

English > Croatian > Chinese > Norwegian > English

If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at themselves, and then make a change

:)

Just a minor change.
