Go HERE and run the Crucial online scanner.
This will give you the exact memory configuration for your system. You do not have to buy the memory from there, but write down the information and if you need assistance in purchasing the upgrade memory GTG can assist with suggestions also.

The other thing is that the age of the system alone will slow it down.

32MB ATI Radeon SDR AGP

I was running XP SP3 Home perfectly with 2 gigs of RAM and a NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 M64 32mb.

What are you going to use this computer for mostly?

email, word, and video viewing and some minor video encoding from my tuner card.

I guess my pc is one of the fortunate that runs now on xp.
I know it is old, but it has not many issues.
I used crucial.com they had no info on how much I could have. I asked gateway and they said all I could have was 512mb.

If that is all you are going to do, then 512 mb of memory will work fine. For video encoding your graphics card will work, but it will go a little slowly.

You could run a distro of Linux faster than Windows on your computer.
