Hey, I was hoping to get some help on this problem.

The only program that can access the Internet on my computer is my Opera internet browser (the only I'm using to type this), but nothing else - not other browsers, games, email clients, etc.

I have a Compaq Presario computer running Windows XP SP2 which was working fine until I had a horrible virus come through. A couple weeks ago, we had a guy come in and use ComboFix to clean it up and so the computer is now running on a modified BOOT.ini

I also tried turning off Windows Firewall and that didn't work.

Other than that, I've noticed in the "Network Connections" box, there are only two icons - "1394 Connection" and "Local Area Connection" whereas I used to have three. The last icon called "Internet Gateway".

How I remedy this?

Make sure, your computer is really clean...

I suggest that you start a new topic in the Malware Removal and Spyware Removal area.

Before you start a new topic click on this link --> Malware and Spyware Cleaning Guide, Please read before starting a new topic. This will give you a few preparations to make, as well as instruction for posting your OTListIt2 log.

If you are still having problems after being given a clean bill of health from the malware expert, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).

Broni -
I installed some of the programs, but because I am unable to connect to the Internet, I cannot update any of the virus scans and programs. Are there ones that are absolutely necessary that don't require updates?
