I know very little about laptops. I received a laptop from my dad a year ago then decided to actually use it around 4 months ago. It's a Dell latitude, very old..well about 11 years old (windows 98). It was working fine, except for the battery not recharging as it should until the screen started going blank (maybe about 2 months ago?. I noticed 2 slight cracks around the monitor and i strongly believe they are contributing to the problem.

Any tips? Any way to fix it at home?

p.s. it is normal for about 7 secs then it's completely wipe out (turn white)
everything else runs fine; so i believe it's only a problem within the screen

thanks

Could possibly be this. He's talking about HP Omnibook's but it probably applies to your laptop as well.

All I can find on the problem is technical issues anyhow, so it would require some elbow grease :)

You are very welcome. Sorry the fix was quite technical.
However congratulations on the new laptop! If you have any more problems with it, you know where to look for help :)
