Updates no longer available for AVG so uninstalled it and downloaded Avast from Cnet. Computer worked before but now it gets errors after desktop is up for less than 3 minutes. I get a blue screen that says file name VMM(01) + 0000BDCO error:OE:0028:C000CDCO. Sometimes if I press ctrl alt del I get An exception OE has occured at0028:C02D1FCC inVxD VRED1R(06) + 00006500. this is called from 0028:C0079BEO in VxD VKD(01)+00000640. The dektop comes up and I can try to open a program but after about 3 minutes, blue scree comes up with these errors on it and stops everything. An error screen comes up for AVAST If I try to open it. It says There was an error while completing the set up process. I checked the view set up box and there is one item in red that says progress thread start. All other items are either in green or black. What can I do to get my PC working again?

Have you tried uninstalling Avast? Try doing it in safe mode if regular mode does not work.

Uh, how do I get to safe mode and then uninstall? By the way, Thank you for your help.

Restart your comp:
Hold or press F8 at the first logo screen.
At the choices, highlight safe mode and press enter.
It will show you a list of drivers, but just wait.

When you logon, choose Administrator, or an account with those privileges.
Go to Add/Remove Programs in the control panel. Choose Avast!.

Updates should always be available from AVG by the way, so if uninstalling Avast! fixes the problem, you can download AVG again, from my sig. If you don't want either, try Avira Anti-Vir. You can get it here.

He probably had AVG 7.5. No updates are available for that version.

Ah ok, I see what you mean. I guess you have to uninstall 7.5 to get 8. I never had 7.5, so I thought it just updated you to 8. My bad.

Thanks a thousand times, to those who replied and helped me out. My PC is again working and my wife is happy again. She does a lot of charity work and needs to use it for record keeping. I did the F8 and got into safe mode and deleted Avast, restarted computer and everthing is working again. Thanks OPENOUTCOME. G2G is a wonderful website!!!!

Sometimes AntiVirus programs need to use an advanced UnInstaller, as when you add a new AV there's a conflict with leftover's from Uninstall of previous AV.

Future reference:AVG remover
AVG Remover utility removes all parts of AVG installation on your computer, including registry items, installation and user files on your disk, etc. AVG Remover is the least option to be used in case the AVG uninstallation / repair installation process has failed repeatedly.
