Hi all!

My computer has been running slow for some time but now it is absolutely painful waiting for it to do anything.

When I log into my user account it takes up to five minutes before I can do anything.

When task manager is running CPU usage will sometimes spike up to 100% even though I am not actually doing anything and I can hear the computer "working". Task manager shows 38-47 processed running. I have shut down some of them (eg itunes related applications) but they restart by themselves.

I have run Spybot and AVG and removed all spyware etc. that was found by them.

I have run msconfig and have very few applications set to start when Windows starts up.

I am tempted to throw this computer out the window and buy a new one but it would be a real pain to transfer all my files and programs to a new computer and I am trying to avoid that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1. Since you indicated that you cleaned up spyware, I would suggest you take a trip to the malware forum (link in signature). Do the preparation work and then let them give you a clean bill of health.

Download Process Explorer: http://technet.micro...s/bb896653.aspx
Unzip ProcessExplorer.zip, and double click on procexp.exe to run the program.
Click on View > Select Colunms.
In addition to already pre-selected options, make sure, the Command Line is selected, and press OK.
Go File>Save As, and save the report as Procexp.txt.

I can see, you're running two antivirus programs: AVG, and Norton.
This is really bad idea.
Please, provide some info about this issue.

I am having similar issues as the first poster... so I figured that I would try dowloading the process explorer to see if someone could take a look at it, but was unable to run it (error message) or load it in any way (even after I turned off my security - Kaspersky)...The signature could not be verified (said this even after I turned off my Kaspersky).... I know I am not running more than one anti-virus, firewall, etc. Kaspersky is the only thing I have installed.

I don't know if anyone can help, but at this point throwing out the computer does seem like an option!
