Almost 50 GB Disk space free but still shows disk full

Hi,
My C drive has some 45-50 GB free space(I calculated it by adding the total size of all the folders it contains and also by tune up disk explorer) but still it shows empty space = 3 GB - 25 GB (keeps on fluctuating). I recently installed Macromedia dreamweaver(size = 200 MB). Before installing it showed free space = 3Gb and after installation, it shows 0 bytes.

Why is it so???

Earlier I had Nod32 installed in my comp and it disinfected the win32.sality virus which increases the file size of every exe file, now i have Bitdefender 2009 (fully updated) but it doesnt show this virus when I scan my disk.
PLZ tell me how to retrieve my original total free space?
