Just so everyone knows... Acid3 is not a speed test. It simply sees how well the browser can follow certain web standards. It also tests some things which are in drafts of the CSS3 specifications, but aren't official yet.

Anyways, there is already a table on wikipedia which shows how well each browser does on Acid3 with default settings.

Maybe, they shouldn't release half-ready product, like they often do?
...
I've never touched IE in my life, but surely some people use it...

How can you criticize IE if you haven't used it? IE8 is much improved over previous versions, to the point where I haven't been compelled to install Firefox to use instead. :)

Ah, what a drag, stettybet :)

Acid3 is primarily testing specifications for “Web 2.0″ dynamic Web applications. Also there
are some visual rendering tests, including webfonts

The Acid3 test measures some performance characteristics. The test does not attempt to make any comparisons or judgments as to the performance of any hardware used, and should not be used as a benchmark. If the test is run on a slow computer or device, it may run slowly or not smoothly and this does not imply non-conformance....
most of us play with several browsers...I use both chrome and firefox...with chrome loading faster and just feels faster...but I can't give up firefox because of the extensions that I use that make it my browser it works like I want it to...if chrome ever get extensions to use like I have on firefox ...I would switch over and never look back...I have been using firefox since its first launch and it WAS FAST...now after each new version I have noticed a speed penalty that has started to annoy me...
just my 2 cents worth

I scored a 72/100 with Firefox, file version 1.9.0.3439. I have no idea how to tell if I have 3.4 beta or whatever. I just let it update whenever I guess.

Anyways, I have tried all the main ones except Safari. Fire fox always seems the fastest to me. It must have a lot to do with hardware or something, not sure, because I hear others say Chrome or XXXX has a fast "feel" to it, but for me everything else just seems sslllloooooow compared to Firefox, especially IE. IE sort of has the feel of loading the pages like dial up, where you see the page filling/loading. Firefox just pops it up all at once which is what I like. Opera is a very very close second, if not tied. I just don't like to use Opera for some reason, can't really pin point it.

Chrome sort of had that waiting period for the page to completely fill too.

I use IE8 because my FF takes so darn long to load its pathetic. I have no viruses so I hate FF. I can wait 50 seconds before FF opens and 30 sec for a page to load. IE8 takes 2 seconds. So I do not care what that test says the real test is the one at home with my patience, whatever one doesn't try it, wins and so far that is IE

I am running FF 3.6a1 (Minefield - latest nightly) and my Acid score went to 92/100.
Yesterday's nightly had a score of 91/100

Does this happen when testing nightly builds?

The score keeps changing with each nightly.
