Hi. Ive recently had a new hard drive in my computer, ive been trying to get everything back on it and installed and working again but ive run in2 a problem with the webcam, ive installed it correctly and tried different usb ports , ive downloaded the drivers from the website instead of from the disc but no luck, its all installing ok but when i click on preview or AMcap i get the error message 'sorry, You Have No Video Capture Hardware?'. Ive looked on google but cant find an answer. The webcam definatly works as ive tried it on another pc and its fine also ive tried installing an old webcam and that has the same problem. Anyone got an ideas? Help? Thanx in advance

Most of the time, problems like these occur when you connect the hardware before you install the drivers. When you install the drivers first, the system gets set up for the hardware to be connected.

Try the following:

Remove the device via uninstall:
Right click on My Computer and click Manage. Then click Device Manager. Find the name of your webcam, and right click on it to click Uninstall - then confirm. Unplug the device.

Remove the drivers via uninstall:
Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
Find name of program and click Change/Remove and follow prompts.

--

Then Reboot. Install the drivers first, then connect the device after setup finishes. The system should recognize your webcam.

Did this work? Please give feedback or ask questions.

I'm thinking driver issue but sounds like you have already uninstalled/reinstalled directly from the site. Does the computer see the hardware when you plug in the camera? Or when you plug it in, nothing happens? Perhaps verify your USB ports are enabled in the BIOS. Did you search for a fix on the site directly btw? That'd be the best place to look.

I did everything u said , the drivers install and i see a webcam icon on the taskbar with a cross on it and it says dissconected, and then i plug the cam in and when i plug the cam in a new found hardware wizard box appears but doesnt find it? it says the hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the software. And in AMcap i still get the error message 'sorry, You Have No Video Capture Hardware. ive tried several times . Ive looked on the website and there is no fix just drivers.

While i was in device manager i noticed SM Bus Controller is not installed and has a yellow ? next to it, i tried 2 install it but it said it cannot find the software as with the webcam, im not sure what this is but could this be anything to do with it?

Sounds like when its trying to find the drivers you are having it automatically find drivers or whatever. Try selecting the other option ''install from a specific location'' and then select the CD containing the drivers.

Try disconnecting the Camera from the computer, then go to Start> Control Panel> Add Hardware then let the wizard walk you through adding/installing the new Hardware/Drivers. You should get an option to select ''install frm a specific specific Location'' at some point and then navigate to your CD. And when you say its not letting you. Do you mean that ''install from a specific location'' is not avail or do you mean its not seeing your CD?

Sounds like a hidden permissions layer is denying you. Mostly, when a new user account is created, security settings are very strong, and hardly allow any change to the computer.

The only way to attempt a fix on this is the security settings reset tool.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313222
Download the fix and save it to your desktop, and install it. After a while, it will complete. The system will need restarted. Retry my post above (Post #2) and then reply back with results.

to DragonMaster Jay - Thank you, ive downloaded it and run it, rebooted and done as you said but still no luck its just the same :)

Its really bugging me now as to what it could be

Hi Sarahs,

While i was in device manager i noticed SM Bus Controller is not installed and has a yellow ? next to it

.
This means that the mainboard drivers are not installed.

Did you, or someone else install the new hard drive?
When the operating system was installed, was a recovery CD used or a OS cd used?

You need to install the mother board drivers.

What type of computer is it? Make and model? and we can look for them for you.
You might also have a CD that has the drivers on it.

hi, i dont know the make and model as its just in a blank case, is there a way of finding out?
A friend of mine put the new hard drive in and installed windows etc for me and im not sure what was used , i think it was an OS CD. It says hfoxconn on startup if that means anything?

Download and install EVEREST
Open it.
1: In left pane expand Computer folder.
2: Click once on Summary
3: In upper menu, go Report
4: And then to Quick Report-Summary
5: Save it in text file, and paste it in your next post.

DO NOT INCLUDE ANYTHING UNDER THE LINE THAT SAYS "DEBUG- PCI"
