XP does not find my home network?

hello i was running vista home on my laptop but i have decided to go back to XP,i have installed XP ok but when i try to connect to my home network it says it cannot find it?
vista seems to find the network straight away.
i have a virgin cable modem and a belkin router,any ideas what to do please as i do not want to go back to vista?

could be that your xp laptop isn't using the same network name as the others. try right clicking the My Computer icon then click Properties then click the Computer Name Tab and make sure all the computers are in the same workgroup. If not then click the Change button and change to the correct workgroup and Apply then Ok.

i phoned virgin media and they said i did not have a network adapter card installed and they could not help me anymore,i have got a vista disk and i might have to go back to that,i did try installing linux distros but none of them let me connect to my home network?

If you need a network adapter, then it is recommended to get one.
