Weird Monitor Problems

When booting, right after the XP loading screen (just before you should log into the computer) my monitor is shutting off (a blue box appears with 'Out of Range', then the monitor shuts off but PC still sounds like its booting up)

Checked cables, those are fine.

Tried to boot in safe mode, it once again shut off just after loading screen.

Any ideas? No other monitors around to try that - all my friends/roommates have laptops.

Need help asap!
