Hi.

I have just started using Firefox and I have noticed a few times that when I use it, my firewall detects it connecting to IP addresses on its own. One that belongs to Mozilla. This happens even if I am not surfing the net. I thought that I had read that there are no "phone home" issues with Firefox, is this the case. Also is this normal behaviour.

When I open firefox (the only open browser) everything is ok but as soon as I click on my bookmarks my firewall detects firefox connecting to 2 ip addresses. One was from Mozila and the other was from the BBC. I disabled automatic updates on firefox but it didn't stop. It does not stay connected to the sites, it is very brief.

I have XP sp3 and everything else is working fine. This does not happen when I use Internet Explorer.

I appreciate any help, thanks.

what are you going to in bookmarks ( do you have anything for bbc)? What to do have in the way of add ins / extensions.

Find firefox in your start menu and launch firefox (safe-mode). See if the issue still occurs.

If it's the default set-up, the Mozilla is the connection to the Mozilla Firefox Start Page (that's the default homepage) and the BBC is the BBC Headlines that are installed as default.
Deleting the BBC Headlines bookmark should stop that one.

Download FoxScan from HERE, or HERE
Double click on FoxScan.exe to start the scan.
DOS-like window will pop-up.
Press 2 for English. Press Enter.
Be patient. It'll take few minutes.
When the tool is done, it'll display:

Search completed.
Press any key to coninue...

Press any key.
Notepad window titled Rapport-FS.txt will open.
Save the file to known location, and attach it to your next reply.

Hi.

Thanks for the replies, I just noticed that they were there. I will download fox scan and post the log as soon as I can.

I think the BBC thing might be related to the BBC headlines as you mentioned Throoper, I will delete it and see what happens.

Just to be clear, the browser does not actually load the sites I mentioned. For example if I am at my homepage. "Blank". From time to time I see the internet connection light up, when I take a look on my firewall I see that firefox is connecting to an ip address. When I have traced these addresses the were from Mozilla, BBC and google. Not all at the same time.
