hello, since 2 days i have noticed that if i try to open some sites either do not load at all or some partially open ,while some sites like google, yahoomail, gmail load normally.i am using firefox 3.0.11 ,i also tried with internet explorer but same thing happens.i even had problem registering with your site ,it was partially loading ,it took me more than 7 tries to register .im using kaspersky internet security(kis) 2009 , i tried to open the kaspersky forum site, but its not opening at all, just keeps loading, similarly with other sites .also when i tried to update kaspersky it starts downloading files but then it shows "Network operation timeout expired " ,then selects another update source, starts downloading some files but again shows "Network operation timeout expired " ,so the update fails. i dont know if the browser problem and anti virus update problem r connected .this has never happened before.i ran a complete scan with Malewarebytes Anti- Malware ,but it found nothing. also as im typing all this right now the current new topic page is still loading in the status bar ,so i will just post and hope this gets posted.

Broni ,one of my friends told me to try flushing dns

start - run - cmd - ipconfig/flushdns (enter)

i did this and got the following msg- could not flush the DNS Resolver Cache :Function failed during execution

Yeah, something wrong here.

Go Start>Run ("Start Search" in Vista), type in:
sfc /scannow
Click OK (hold CTRL, and SHIFT, hit Enter in Vista).
Have Windows CD/DVD handy.
If System File Checker (sfc) will find any errors, it may ask you for the CD/DVD (rarely in Vista case).
If sfc won't find any errors in Windows XP, it'll simply quit, without any message.

oh no ,but i dont have the Windows CD ,misplaced it long time back. what else can i do? is there another way to fix the problem? is it a problem with my pc or is it a network problem ? i dont understand the DNS error that i got, should i contact my ISP ?

someone told me to do these 2 steps -

1. You may want to update to a more secure Hosts file
There's lots of important info on that here: http://www.mvps.org/...p2002/hosts.htm
As it's difficult to see the actual download, here it is: http://www.mvps.org/...p2002/hosts.zip
Simply download the hosts.zip file, extract, then run mvps.bat, then restart

2.[Important Notice - 2K/XP/Vista Users]
In most cases a large HOSTS file (over 135 kb) tends to slow down the machine. This only occurs
in W2000 and XP. Windows 98 and Windows ME are not affected.

To resolve this issue (manually) open the "Services Editor"

Start | Run (type) "services.msc" (no quotes)
Scroll down to "DNS Client", Right-click and select: Properties
Click the drop-down arrow for "Startup type"
Select: Manual, click Apply/Ok and restart.
Then restart, and test browsing the Internet again

will thses 2 steps help ? what do u advise?

"DNS Client" should be set to "Automatic", not to "Manual".

I'm not sure, what the problem is here, that why I wanted you run sfc.

As for hosts file, the above is a very good security step, but it won't solve your problem.
However, we can check what you have there.
Navigate to:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
You'll see hosts file there (no extension).
Open it in Notepad, and paste the content back here.

So, certainly some file(s) are missing, or corrupted.
You can use borrowed XP CD to fix those files.
