I have not been able to connect to the internet over the past week, though the PC says it is connected. I can ping, I have a valid IP (168...), and have spent nearly 4 hours on the phone with ATT&T to determine that their equipment is working OK. HP will not help me unless a buy a new warrantee I have a laptop and PS3 that can browse wirelessly, but the PC, hooked up with an Ethernet cable, can not browse. The PC's power supply also died the same day that this problem first started. I had a new one installed at BestBuy, where they also did a PC cleanup that found 70+ viruses, malwares, etc. that my Kaspersky did not detect(!). I have tried IE8 and Firefox and get the message "Address not found", etc.. I have had DSL internet for 3 years on this machine with no problems, but just switched to ATT about a month ago. I have tried several different Ethernet cables. I have tried many different solutions offered through this and other forums. I just found out that I CAN view web pages when starting in "Safe Mode with Networking".

The machine is a:
HP Pavilion a1646x

Hey there Knittel,

You should make a stop through the malware forum, to see if your system is clean by our experts.. I'm still in training, but hidserv, Netman, WmiPrvSE.exe, and inetinfo.exe, could be infected processes, just to name a few.. Wouldn't hurt either way. When you get an OK from them that your system is clean, you can come back here for help if you still need it.. which you might not :)

Go to the Malware Forum and read the stickies located at the top, especially this one.
The guides will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself. Then you can post a OTL log in THAT forum. Be patient, the Malware Forum is a very busy place and a two or three day wait is not unusual. Only after a three day wait may you move to The Waiting Room where you will be on the top of the list to be helped. A three day wait is 72 hours.. Make sure it has been over that amount of time, or your Waiting Room topic will be closed.

If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from the malware expert, please return to this thread..

Hope this helps -
Jason :)

Thanks, I will go there first. I would of hoped that the $$ I just spent at BestBuy would have cleaned up any Malware, but if you want something done right......

Good choice :)

We learn from our mistakes anyway.. Why spend good $$ when you can get things done for free here? Lol. Hope the malware forum cleans up your problems, if not - there's plenty of ideas to go around.

Good luck,
Jason
