I'm not sure if this is the right section to post in so please move it if I'm not.

Recently my computer has been running slower and slower, and I don't know why. I mean to just open my firefox explorer takes like a couple minuets and I used to click it and bam it was up.
I'm not sure the route to go to make my computer respond faster, so any suggestions on how to do so please let me know.

Download and install EVEREST
Open it.
1: In left pane expand Computer folder.
2: Click once on Summary
3: In upper menu, go Report
4: And then to Quick Report-Summary
5: Save it in text file, and paste it in your next post.

DO NOT INCLUDE ANYTHING UNDER THE LINE THAT SAYS "DEBUG- PCI"

Download Autoruns from the link in my signature below:

1: Extract the Autoruns Zip file contents to a folder.
2: Double-click the "Autoruns.exe".
3: Click on the "Everything" tab
4: Remove any entries that mention "File Not Found" by right-clicking the entry and select Delete.
5: Go to File then to Export As.
6: Save AutoRuns.txt file to know location.
7: Attach to your next reply.

Hi Onesti and welcome to Geeks to go.

What is the make and model of your computer?
What is the size of the hard drive?
How much free space on the drive? Go to start....my computer...right click on C drive......properties will give you drive size and free space.
How much ram (memory) do you have. Go to start....and right click on my computer...go to properties....Next screen will give you what we need.
What is the OS? XP pro, home, vista, etc.

Go to the link in my signature "maintaining your machine- why is it so slow". Work through that and it will help a lot.
Let us know how you make out, and if necessary, we can continue.

Also, I forgot about this, but for some reason I cannot use my microphone, all I get is static whenever I'm talking on like Ventrilo, and I know it's not my mic because I get the same sound when I unplug it, but we can deal with that after we fix this xP

Open Autoruns, click on "Logon" tab, and UN-check:

+ Adobe Reader Speed Launcher
+ QuickTime Task
+ SunJavaUpdateSchedul
+ BitTorrent DNA ...........This can be part of the problem also
+ ctfmon.exe
+ DW6

When done restart computer and then:

Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.
TFC will close all running programs, and it may ask you to restart computer.

Download Auslogics Defrag from the link in my signature below. Auslogics Defrag in my opinion is better because:

It does a more comprehensive job at Defragging
It will actually show you what it is doing
At the end of working it will show you how much speed you picked up
You can view a online log of the files that Auslogics defragged

When all this done and if no improvement can be seen I believe you may also have infection due to the use of Bit Torrent
A lot of these files downloaded can be infected with virus's or trojans. They can hid themselves as legitimate programs.

I suggest you go to the Malware Forum and run all the steps located in the START HERE. These self-help tools will help you clean up 70% of problems on your own. If you are still having problems after doing the steps, then please post the reguested logs in THAT forum. If you are unable to run any of the tools then start a new topic in the malware forum and put this in the subject line...I am unable to run any malware tools

If you are still having problems after being given a clean bill of health from the malware expert, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).

Add a link to this topic so that malware tech can see what steps have been taken here
