I received an error when staring up PC: Logon Message : Unable to log you on because of account restriction. Well, I put my XP CD in and tried to boot from CD but I am unable. I have a bluetooth usb wireless mouse & keyboard and I thought that was the problem. I attached a regular keyboard to the PC and I am still unable to use the keyboard. I can't press F8 to log in safe mode and I cant press the del key to change in the bios setting. HELP!!!! Please!

Hi Elliemae,

Make sure the system is completely powered off before connecting the keyboard.

Can you provide the make/model of your computer?

I tried that it still doesn't work.

My PC was made by a friend who has since passed away. It is not a name brand like Dell, HP, etc.

Are you using a PS/2 keyboard and mouse? Not a USB one.

I WAS using a usb bluetooth wireless mouse & keyboard---they won't work now so I tried a ps2 keyboard hoping I could hit enter to do a reinstall or either hit del key so I could change the bios setting. NEITHER works.

You can try resetting your CMOS by pulling the battery in your motherboard. For pictures on how it looks like search on Google. Once you pulled the battery wait for 1 minute and put it back in.

Try cleaning your PS/2 ports with some compressed air.

Can you try using a USB keyboard.
Also try removing the CMOS battery and waiting for about 45 minutes before putting it back.

I didn't leave the battery out that long so I will try again and see if that helps.

For some reason I cannot use ANY keyboard. Puzzling that a keyboard will not work --- USB or ps2.

The only thing I can think of is a motherboard problem. Try leaving the battery out longer if it helps.
