For the benefit of everybody, the OP's question is:

Hi.
Just finished abuild, super computer, and upgrade on my old one.
I own an old xp home cd, no service packs. Also baught xp home sp3 OEM, whitch I used for 2 copies of nlite slip streamed cd.
Can I remove, replace the OEM s/n, ref file, from one copy and replace it with the s/n from my old xp instaltion cd?
This would save lots of time and effort.
Thanks.

Iammykyl.

Please can you clarify what you mean by "OEM s/n". What sort of machine is it and what labels are on the disk?
Most OEM cds such as those you get with a Dell machine for example use what's called a Dell VLK key - a volume licence key. These are unique to the disk, unique to the manufacturer and will not activate either online or by telephone. Therefore changing the product key in them is not an option as the installation will not recognise it and possibly worse, will not activate at all.

Hi Neil.
The new disc is, Microsoft xp home edition SP3 licenced for distribution only with a new pc and comes with a product key [s/n] My old disc, version 2003, no service packs, installed on my first build. Build 2 was about 3 years ago, installed xp then SP2 ok. Build 2 now upgraded, no o/s installed.
Build 3 has, antec P182, antec 750w true power, asus P5Q deluxe, asus EAH 4830, 3 samsung 500 h/d, 4gb corsair ddr2 C4DHX, PLUS USUAL BITS.
works great except, memory C4 only recognised as C5. Not solved this yet.

Thanks.
